For three decades Fred Rogers welcomed us to his neighborhood sharing lessons and stories as he took us to the land of make believe. While most people know his sweater and smile, many don’t realize that he was actually a scientist working at a time when some of the tip educational scientists were working in the Pittsburgh area.

Behr and Rydzewski share the science behind Mr. Rogers and help us understand how he was able to connect with children and teach them empathy so that we can do the same in our homes and classrooms. Together they explain how we can combine cutting edge technology with tried and true practices to educate our children and prepare them to become productive and resilient adults.

The authors do a fantastic job of bringing us back to our own childhoods while creating a new level of understanding of what made us feel so safe and confident.
